Why is that? Nutritionists have found out there are several reasons that extreme dieting can be a bad choice for weight loss.

The body is not meant to endure the process in which it causes. In fact, extreme dieting causes a cycle that is hard to overcome. There are five ways that this way of dieting is not the right way to lose weight:

The body functions by consuming and using calories. They are energy, therefore calories that are withheld will result in fatigue. The body’s organs and systems require adequate amounts of energy to function properly.

Often times, they are just choosing the wrong way to diet, and it leads to an eating disorder that becomes a vicious cycle of emotional struggles.


4. Diets Cause Nutrient Deficiencies

Nutritionists have found that it is almost impossible to get the necessary nutrients from the varieties and amounts of diet foods on the market. Not giving the body the required nutrients causes it to not function properly.

An example of this is the magnesium nutrient found in high calorie foods that extreme dieting doesn’t allow, such as in avocados and dark chocolate. Magnesium deficiencies are link to negative health issues like poor memory, insomnia, tremors, and so on. Cutting out a lot of food will cut out many nutrients the body needs.


5. Long-term Weight Gain Can Occur From Dieting

As stated above, reducing too many calories will lower the body’s metabolism. While an initial cut in calories will result in some weight falling off, it is only temporary. The body goes into shock from not getting enough energy, and will then recuperate by holding onto everything. This means that weight loss is short-term, then weight gain becomes long-term. What’s more – the weight gained from this can be even more than what was lost. So extreme diets may cause some immediate weight loss, but it will lead to even more gain.

Dieting is not a short-term quick fix. A healthy diet and successful weight loss plan involves some life changes. Nutritionists suggest tailoring a diet plan that is right for you. Don’t cut out foods or do any drastic measures. Take gradual steps, such as slowly adding vegetables and increasing water intake. By slowly changing habits, the body can adjust more easily and lead to long-term weight loss.
